Pentecost is the day Christians celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit, which was poured out on the early followers of Jesus as they gathered in Jerusalem after His resurrection and ascension. This moment, described in Acts 2, is often called the birthday of the Church—when the disciples were empowered to go out and share the good news in many languages, uniting people from every nation.

For United Methodists, Pentecost reminds us of God’s ongoing presence with us through the Holy Spirit. It’s a time to celebrate the Spirit’s work in guiding, comforting, and empowering the Church for mission and ministry. We wear red to symbolize the tongues of fire that appeared above the disciples’ heads—and to represent the passion and energy of the Church set in motion.

In short, Pentecost is about power, promise, and purpose—and the continuing call to be witnesses of Christ in the world. We hope you will gather at Central for this special morning of worship!
